Metro Issues First A+ Reward Card to Texila American University!


Metro Office and Computer Supplies issued their first A+ Reward Card to Texila American University!  Mr. Deril Fernandez, Administration Manager accepted the card on behalf of the University.

The University will enjoy incredible discounts and other benefits on stationery items under the A+ Reward Programme.  TAU is thrilled and grateful for being the first organization to receive the card and plans to take full advantage of the programme.

TAU Staff goes on a Fun Retreat!

The staff and faculty members of Texila American University celebrated the completion of the previous academic semester by going on a day of outing to the Splashmin’s Resort located on the Madewini Creek, Soesdyke Linden Highway on Friday, August 28, 2015.

The day was filled with fun, enlightening experiences, laughter, games, food, swimming, sun bathing, boat riding and taking tons of photographs.  The staff truly rejoiced as they paused, stepped back from their everyday work environment and just relax.
Like spending vacation time, the retreat allowed everyone to renew their enthusiasm and excitement for work. Best of all, the staff had a chance to create memories as a team and are all now even closer due to the experience.
TAU really wanted to re-emphasize to people that the institution is a friendly organization providing a cosy, welcoming environment to all. The event’s success was directly attributed to the dedication, commitment of the University’s staffs and faculty.

The British High Commissioner to Guyana Visits Texila American University!

On Thursday, September 17, 2015, the British High Commissioner to Guyana and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname, H.E. James Greg Quinn along with the Political, Press and Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Dillon Seetram paid a campus visit to Texila American University, one among the rapidly growing Medical Schools in the Caribbean.

The High Commissioner met with members of the Executive Management Committee of the University comprising the Vice Chancellor - Dr. Dilip Patnaik; Vice President - Mr. Ashok Kumar; Director of Operations - Mr. Sreebalakumar; Registrar - Mr. Julius Romarate and the Dean - Dr. Sanyal Sanjoy.
The VC along with other representatives welcomed and provided an overview of the programmes, work, operations and diversity of the University.  Mention was also made of TAU’s plans for expansion at the Providence and economic contributions to Guyana.

The Director of Operations indicated that TAU currently has two (2) UK students.  He also mentioned that students from UK usually have high expectations of the campus and the country. Further, he noted that even though clinical rotations are not currently done in UK, TAU still intends to search and partner with some good UK institutions to make this offer.  Hopefully, the High Commission can support TAU in this aspect.

The High Commissioner indicated that UK currently has a Student Exchange Programme with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) whereby one UK student works with the hospital per year. Additionally, he advised that TAU boost advertising and promotion in UK region to attract more students, especially, when some knowledge and connection already exists.

Thereafter, the VC and the High Commissioner both presented tokens to each other before touring the campus.

USA Ambassador Pays Courtesy Visit to Texila American University!

The Members of the Executive Management Committee of Texila American University (TAU) comprising the Vice President - Mr. Ashok Kumar, Vice Chancellor - Dr. Dilip Patnaik, Director of Operations - Mr. Sreebalakumar, Registrar - Mr. Julius Romarate and the Dean - Dr. Sanyal Sanjoy met with the Charge’d  Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America, Charge’Bryan Hunt and their Assistant Public Affairs Officer - Mr. Albert Razick on September 10, 2015 at East Coast Campus.

The Vice Chancellor provided an overview of the University and talked about its contributions to the communities and economy of Guyana, primarily through research, fostering human capital and creating a skilled workforce.  Education Tourism is a major contributor to the economy of a number of countries around the world which consist of offshore Universities that focus on foreign students.  It is estimated that TAU’s foreign student spend approximately US$5,000-US$6,000 annually on food, transportation, entertainment and recreation in the city.  They also engage in travel and tourism within Guyana and are frequently visited by friends and family from abroad; this bodes well for the tourism sector and development of Guyana.

The Vice President indicated that TAU was successful in attracting people who might not otherwise meet Guyana and currently has 438 students from 35+ different countries studying in the University.  He further noted that the current academic infrastructure is equipped with modern learning facilities and the new campus which is being built in Providence will be on par with international standards.

The Assistant Public Affairs Officer inquired about the Accreditation of the University and in response, the Vice President noted that TAU is affiliated with the following key organisations: 1) National Accreditation Council of Guyana; 2) WHO (World Health Organization); 3) IMED (International Medical Education Directory) among others.  He also indicated that TAU, one among the rapidly growing Medical Schools in the Caribbean will soon be affiliated with the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).

The Director of Operations informed that TAU currently conducts Clinical Rotations in
1) Guyana
  •       Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation
  •       St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and
  •       New Amsterdam Hospital
2)      United States of America
3)      Philippines
Additionally, he explained that through the Ministry of Health, the students are working with the Community Health Centers on some outreach programmes.

Further, mention was made about existing partnerships with Hospitals and Universities located in the United States. These include: the Concordia College, South Shore Hospital, Cook County Hospital and Weiss Memorial Hospital. The Charge’d Affaires commended the University officials on these initiatives and gave his wishes for continued success.
After the meeting, TAU representatives presented the Embassy officials with tokens and provided a tour of the facilities. The Embassy officials were impressed at the scale model of the new campus as well as the campus facilities.

Texila Celebrates 5 Years in Guyana!

September 27, 2010, one of the most remarkable days in the history of Texila – the day on which Texila American University (TAU) was registered in Guyana!!!

TAU started in a small way in Guyana lead by the Vision and Mission of its Founder Mr. Saju Bhaskar and Co Founder Mrs. Chithra Saju and executed in Guyana by then Manager - International Operations Mr. Ashok Kumar. TAU opened its doors in Guyana, for its first batch of seven (7) students in May 2011. The Year 2015 marks a special milestone in the history of Texila in Guyana as it celebrates the 5th Anniversary of the founding of the University. Celebrations are ongoing under the theme “CELEBRATING 5TH YEAR OF EXCELLENCE & SERVICE IN HEALTHCARE EDUCATION”. This landmark gives TAU the opportunity to look back at all that have been achieved together and to look forward to building on the institution’s success.

To mark this momentous occasion, the University launched a week-long series of programmes and activities beginning with the launch of their special 5th anniversary logo at all campus sites. Other activities included community health outreach, sharing of mementos and sweets, recognition of staff for their productiveness and services and a health walk and rally. Staff, students, the local community and fellow universities were all part of the celebrations.

In 5 short years, TAU has been into the list of best Caribbean Medical Schools and has made a remarkable impact on the region and the globe through the delivery of excellence and service in healthcare education, research and innovation.  With students from 38+ different countries, the University is recognized as an institution that is making its mark not only in Guyana but also in a Global stage. Over the years, the University has worked hard as an institution to deliver the outcomes of past achievements. An important focus has been to life performance in the world university ranking systems in the face of fierce international competition. TAU is noted for its original academic activity that creates a positive impact through rigorous scholarship, creative pursuit and outward engagement.

Today, they are increasingly recognized as innovators and change agents for improving healthcare quality, access and value.   Texila is indeed honored to celebrate and build upon such a remarkable legacy of excellence to meet the healthcare challenges.
To show their support, Students, Staff, Friends and Family gathered on Saturday, September 27, 2015, to celebrate the University’s anniversary through a grand Health Walk and Rally under the theme “WALK YOUR WAY TO GOOD HEALTH”.  The event was held to encourage the public to take a more active role in their health by simply walking.  The rally urged all to move more, eat better and take care of themselves.

TAU signed MOU with Mekelle University Ethiopia for Doctoral Programs

Texila American University (TAU) had signed an MOU with the Mekelle University, Ethiopia for the Doctoral programs in Nursing and Clinical Research.  TAU is the first ever university to offer PhD in Nursing and Clinical Research in whole of Ethiopia with partnership with Mekelle University
