Texila American University hosted its 3rd Graduation Ceremony with the Motto “TAU Graduates going beyond the challenges of change through Quality Education” at on 10th December 2016 to roll out the successful batch of Healthcare Professionals. Thirty-Five (35) Students from Guyana, Nigeria, India, South Africa, Uganda, Canada & Syrian Arab Republic were graduated from the University as Doctors and Nurses to serve the community.

It is a privilege and an honour to be hosting the graduation ceremony for our Third Batch of Graduates. We would like to express our gratitude for choosing Texila as a preferred partner for their career.

Since inception in 2010, TAU has witnessed immense growth. Every year “Graduation Day” is the only day for us which signifies the achievement and satisfaction of entire years of effort. We strongly believe that “Graduation is not just a goal instead it’s a beginning of a larger journey of life and all accomplishments we achieve during its course should be taken as starting points for further achievements.”

Our Chief guest, The Honourable Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Mr. Moses Nagamootoo, who presented the Graduation Message to our Students said “ the student being responsible healthcare professionals, should uphold the humanity and mankind to the society and treat this profession as noble one and should be committed to serve the community”

The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. S.P. Saju Bhaskar, Founder and President of Texila American University. Speaking on the occasion he thanked all of the families and friends in the audience who are present. Recalling the famous saying by Nelson Mandela “Education is the best weapon you can use to change the world”, which is very true. Being educated does not imply to be a matter of proud unless that education is productive with regard to the necessities of the surrounding people and society. A literate on paper and degrees could not be called an educated person, unless he knows how to implement the learnt knowledge. Mr. Saju Bhaskar advised all the students to take the next steps in their journey towards building their career and future.

The Plaque of Appreciation was presented to the Chief Guest by the President of Texila American University. The Degrees were awarded to the Graduates by Hon’ble Prime minister of Guyana.

The welcome note was delivered by Dr. A. Anand, The Executive Vice-Chancellor of the University. Speaking on the special occasion he quoted “Medicine is never an easy path, but as I have always said, the best things in life never come easy. You all came to this country, far from your home, with dreams and hopes of one day, being called a “Doctor”. Today, your dreams are realized and your journey does not end; rather, it begins.”

We are proud of every single professional who graduated from our University and we are confident that our students will become “Responsible Citizens” “Responsible Healthcare Professionals” & “Responsible Life Savers” for their community, country and world.

Texila Raises Bar in Education Provision in Zambia

Texila American University (TAU) Group has pledged, through TAU Zambia, to push beyond the next level the quality of excellence in education provided in Zambia.

In so doing, over the last couple of weeks, TAU Zambia had been finalizing and consolidating its in-country operations prior to the January, 2017, inauguration of the newly acquired 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art campus in one of the Capital City’s most exclusive suburbs.

This consolidation has seen the finalization of the acquisition of TAU Zambia’s new property and the recruitment of highly qualified academic and support staff to run the university when it opens in March, 2017.

TAU’s Founder and President, Saju Bhaskar S.P, made it emphatically evident that TAU’s desire for educational excellence that supersedes what currently is the standard in Zambian Education could only be achieved through the expanding and maximising of Zambia’s educational capacity.

The President made this clear when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Health, Honourable Chitalu Chilufya M.D., at his offices on Tuesday, 25th October, 2016.

In plainly outlining how TAU, through TAU Zambia, would expand and maximize Zambia’s educational capacity, the President assured the Minister that TAU Zambia would bring together both local and international expats that would provide unparalleled and experience-drenched services, which, coupled with the quality education and infrastructure for which the TAU Group is synonymous, would maximize the aforementioned capacity.

“The high quality infrastructure that TAU Zambia’s facilities will provide in the form of state-of-the-art laboratories, classroom and libraries, and the Educational Tourism that will be generated by Zambia through the university’s aim of not only catering to Zambia but the rest of the region as well, will generate revenue for the country,” he said.

The President further unquestionably elaborated to the Honorable Minister that TAU Zambia was more than capable of not only exceeding the requirement standards set by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), but in setting a benchmark at which all other medical institutions in the country will be judged.

And speaking at the same occasion, Dr.Chilufya stated that the Ministry would facilitate partnerships between TAU Zambia and local hospitals for the successful training of medical doctors who graduate from the university.

The President acknowledged that the Ministry of Health’s facilitation of partnerships with local hospitals on behalf of TAU Zambia and, more so, his pledged personal capacity facilitation, would allow for a much larger partnership for TAU Zambia beyond the more than the five (5) hospitals that are already keen to partner with the university.

The School of Medicine, Department of Nursing, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, School of Business, Information & Technology, and Education, are among the inaugural schools for which the university is currently enrolling and that will commence in March, 2017.

Furthermore, the President acknowledged that pushing educational excellence in Zambia would require a two-pronged approach that is anchored on one end with the provision of quality education, and on the other end with the generation of revenue for the country to, thus, bolster and encourage more investment in the sector by the Government.

It is for this reason that when the President paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Higher Education, Honourable Nkandu Luo Ph.D., on Wednesday, 19th October, 2016, the main talking point was Educational Tourism and how TAU will capitalise on this revenue generating venture for the betterment of the Zambian republic.

Educational Tourism, which is one of the fastest growing areas of the travel that is part of the, as of 2014, US$7.6 trillion global tourism industry, refers to any programme in which participants travel to a location as a group with the primary purpose of engaging in a learning experience directly related to the location (Rodger, 1998: 28).

The main idea behind this concept is that travel is as much about self-improvement as it is about relaxation. Therefore, as students come to Zambia to study, they not only travel within their destination country of choice but throughout that county and even to neighboring lands.

The goal here is to widen the educational experience so that university students do not only know their own culture but also that of at least one other nation.

MCI Recognition: A crucial Factor for Medical Studies Abroad

Texila American University Celebrated 6 years in Guyana

Texila American University completed its 6 Years of Excellence as a World Class Affordable Educational Provider. Day One (1) – 26th September, 2016 – “Anniversary”

Anniversary celebration commenced with a “Happy 6th Anniversary Cake” that was presented along with a Presentation for well deserving staffs who have dedicated their services to TAU for over three (3) years.

Day 2- 28th September, 2016 – “Blood Donation Drive”

A Blood Drive was organized on Campus involving Staff and students. A total of 48 units of blood were donated.

Day 3- 30th September, 2016 “Health Outreach Day”

A donation consisting of various non- perishable items were made towards the Children’s Convalescent home and the Old Age Home (Psalms). This was handed over by Ms. Tamika and Ms. Annette along with five (5) students on behalf of Texila American University.

Also a Mini Health Outreach programme was conducted on Regent Street for the members of the public to have free access to check their blood pressure and blood sugar also free health consultation. A total number of 195 persons were checked and advised about their health. This activity commenced at 9:00 hours and concluded at 15:30 hours.

Medical Post Graduation: A Multitude of Options

“Dr.” It gives an immense pleasure and pride to see those two letters in front of one’s name. However, in the present scenario, becoming a doctor is not sufficient and everybody needs to specialize in some or the other area of interest.

In India, every state has fixed number of seats allocated for various specialties which the medical graduates can choose based on availability and merit. 50 per cent of these seats are filled by a common entrance examination i.e. AIPGMEE.

“Approximately 70,000 students took the PG entrance examinations in 2011 for an approximately 11,300 seats which include 5,500 MD, 2,500 MS and 3,300 PG Diploma seats. So, approximately 1 in 6 will get a seat. As every candidate will not get a seat in the current year, the number of aspirants increases by approximately 10 per cent every year.”

Headaches: A common Burden of Life

Headache is one of the most common medical complaints. Almost everyone experiences a headache from time to time. In the large majority of cases, it is a completely mild condition which is a nuisance and does not represent any significant or long-term medical problems. Headaches can be more complicated than most people realize. Different kinds can have their own set of symptoms, happen for unique reasons, and need different kinds of treatment.

Once you know the type of headache you have, you and your doctor can find the treatment that’s most likely to help and even try to prevent them.

What Are the Types of Headaches?

There are 150 different types of headaches. The most common ones are:

Chronic headaches: Also called stress headaches, chronic daily headaches, or chronic non-progressive headaches, they are the most common type among adults and teens. They cause mild to moderate pain and come and go over time.

Migraines: These headaches are often described as pounding, throbbing pain. They can last from 4 hours to 3 days and usually happen one to four times per month. Along with the pain, people have other symptoms, such as sensitivity to light, noise, or smells; nausea or vomiting; loss of appetite; and upset stomach or belly pain.

Cluster headaches: This type is intense and feels like a burning or piercing pain behind the eyes, either throbbing or constant. It’s the least common but the most severe type of headache. The pain can be so bad that most people with cluster headaches can’t sit still and will often pace during an attack.

They’re called “cluster headaches” because they tend to happen in groups. You might get them one to three times per day during a cluster period, which may last 2 weeks to 3 months. The headaches may disappear completely (go into “remission”) for months or years, only to come back again.

Sinus headaches: With these, you feel a deep and constant pain in your cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of your nose. They happen when cavities in your head, called sinuses, get inflamed. The pain usually comes along with other sinus symptoms, such as a runny nose, feeling of fullness in the ears, fever, and swelling in your face.

Acute headaches: Kids get these headaches that start suddenly and go away after a short time. If there are no symptoms of other nerve problems, the most common cause is a respiratory or sinus infection.

What Causes Headaches?

The pain you feel during a headache comes from a mix of signals between your brain, blood vessels, and nearby nerves. Specific nerves of the blood vessels and head muscles switch on and send pain signals to your brain. But it’s not clear why these signals turn on in the first place.

People often get headaches because of:

Illness: such as an infection, cold, or fever. They’re also common with conditions like sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), a throat infection, or an ear infection. In some cases, the headaches may be the result of a blow to the head or rarely, a sign of a more serious medical problem.

Stress: Common causes of tension headaches include emotional stress and depression as well as alcohol use, skipping meals, changes in sleep patterns, and taking too much medication. Other causes include eyestrain and neck or back strain due to poor posture.

Headaches, especially migraines, tend to run in families. Most children and teens (90%) who have migraines have other family members who get them. When both parents have a history of migraines, there is a 70% chance that their child will also have them. If only one parent has a history of these headaches, the risk drops to 25%-50%.
