GEORGETOWN, Guyana - The Guyana Trade and Exposition
Fair (GuyExpo) was held from October 2nd -5th at the
Sophia Exhibition site in Georgetown under the theme-‘Transformation: Partnering for a better Guyana’.
The annual event is meant to showcase locally
produced goods and services but also attracts a broad range of product/service
suppliers from the Caribbean and further afield. Approximately 400
exhibitors were registered to participate in the event, representing a total
of ten countries including: Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, India, United
States of America, Pakistan, Argentina, Brazil, Bangladesh, French Guiana and
Suriname.
This year marked the third time that Texila American
University participated in the trade exposition. According to TAU student
counsellor, Lalta Ramdeen, “the response was very productive.” Dozens of
youth people stopped by the TAU booth to enquire about the program and many
showed strong interest in the model of the new campus.
During the four day event, TAU representatives at
the trade fair conducted BMI, blood pressure and blood sugar testing for more
than fifty individuals each night.
Ramdeen also noted that they received excellent
feedback from more than 50 visitors to the booth who indicated keen interest in
the March 2015 intake for the pre-medicalprogram.
The goal of TAU’s participation in
GuyExpo 2014 was to create greater recognition and awareness in its medical programs. The general interest shown by visitors to the
booth indicated that the school was well on its way to realizing this goal.
Those manning the booth included Ms.
Nirupa Lildhar, Ms. Ashley Williams, Mr. Tygue Legall, Mr. Nanda Kishore, Mr. Karthikeyan
Thangaraj, Ms. Maria Castilla, Mr. Francis Castilla, Mr. Sreejesh P. G., and
Mr. Bala Kumar. A number of medical
students also assisted in the booth.
GuyExpo began in 1995 but became an
annual activity in 2004. According to the GuyExpo Secretariat an estimated 110,000
visitors were expected to attend the event.
