TAU Announces the Graduation of Second Batch of Doctors

Texila American University (TAU) is proud to announce the graduation of the Second batch of Doctors on 25th November 2015. It is indeed a historical moment for everyone involved for the years of hard work in developing a University with the quality of education it provides today!

Graduation Ceremony is scheduled between 4 pm – 7 pm, on Wednesday, 25th November 2015. 



Graduation Day is one of the most important days in the University Centre’s calendar – a celebration of our student’s achievements, both academically and personally, during their time with us.

TAU Participates in Medical Technology Trends Seminar

On Thursday, August 28, 2015, students and staff of Texila American University (TAU) participated in a Medical Technology Trends seminar hosted by Starr Computer Inc.
Speakers of the session were Starr Computer’s President, Mr. Michael Mohan who spoke about today’s medical technology trends and their Manager, Mr. Derick Rahat who gave a brief overview of renewable energy and its role in supporting medical technology.
The President explained that persons suffering from certain diseases could benefit from medical technology, for example, photodynamic therapy could aid cancer patients, while artificial pancreases for person with diabetes, bionic eyes for the visually impaired and replacement body parts for the injured were also concrete possibilities.

He also mentioned that there were many applications that could be used as some software allow persons to find the nearest doctor/hospital, pay hospital bills online, speak to trained doctors online, request appointments, purchase medication from pharmacies, and access insurance companies.
He noted that another interesting addition to the medical field is the “virscan blood test”, which means you can now have your viral infection history diagnosed from a single drop of blood. In certain countries, it is possible for persons to print body parts in 3D.
Other topics discussed included stem cells and stem cell research, Alzheimer’s treatment, defective organ treatment, cancer treatment, spinal cord injury treatment and juvenile diabetes treatment.

After the seminar, TAU representatives were taken on a tour of the Starr facility, and were given the opportunity to see the equipment which Starr Computer has to offer to the public.
TAU and Starr Computer plan to continue these types of collaboration efforts to increase awareness about both organizations, educate staff on topics that are relevant to them, form a better bond with each other and increase business and lead generation

Metro Issues First A+ Reward Card to Texila American University!


Metro Office and Computer Supplies issued their first A+ Reward Card to Texila American University!  Mr. Deril Fernandez, Administration Manager accepted the card on behalf of the University.

TAU Staff goes on a Fun Retreat!

The staff and faculty members of Texila American University celebrated the completion of the previous academic semester by going on a day of outing to the Splashmin’s Resort located on the Madewini Creek, Soesdyke Linden Highway on Friday, August 28, 2015.

The day was filled with fun, enlightening experiences, laughter, games, food, swimming, sun bathing, boat riding and taking tons of photographs.  The staff truly rejoiced as they paused, stepped back from their everyday work environment and just relax.
Like spending vacation time, the retreat allowed everyone to renew their enthusiasm and excitement for work. Best of all, the staff had a chance to create memories as a team and are all now even closer due to the experience.
TAU really wanted to re-emphasize to people that the institution is a friendly organization providing a cosy, welcoming environment to all. The event’s success was directly attributed to the dedication, commitment of the University’s staffs and faculty.

The British High Commissioner to Guyana Visits Texila American University!

On Thursday, September 17, 2015, the British High Commissioner to Guyana and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname, H.E. James Greg Quinn along with the Political, Press and Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Dillon Seetram paid a campus visit to Texila American University, one among the rapidly growing Medical Schools in the Caribbean.

The High Commissioner met with members of the Executive Management Committee of the University comprising the Vice Chancellor - Dr. Dilip Patnaik; Vice President - Mr. Ashok Kumar; Director of Operations - Mr. Sreebalakumar; Registrar - Mr. Julius Romarate and the Dean - Dr. Sanyal Sanjoy.
The VC along with other representatives welcomed and provided an overview of the programmes, work, operations and diversity of the University.  Mention was also made of TAU’s plans for expansion at the Providence and economic contributions to Guyana.

The Director of Operations indicated that TAU currently has two (2) UK students.  He also mentioned that students from UK usually have high expectations of the campus and the country. Further, he noted that even though clinical rotations are not currently done in UK, TAU still intends to search and partner with some good UK institutions to make this offer.  Hopefully, the High Commission can support TAU in this aspect.

The High Commissioner indicated that UK currently has a Student Exchange Programme with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) whereby one UK student works with the hospital per year. Additionally, he advised that TAU boost advertising and promotion in UK region to attract more students, especially, when some knowledge and connection already exists.

Thereafter, the VC and the High Commissioner both presented tokens to each other before touring the campus.

USA Ambassador Pays Courtesy Visit to Texila American University!

The Members of the Executive Management Committee of Texila American University (TAU) comprising the Vice President - Mr. Ashok Kumar, Vice Chancellor - Dr. Dilip Patnaik, Director of Operations - Mr. Sreebalakumar, Registrar - Mr. Julius Romarate and the Dean - Dr. Sanyal Sanjoy met with the Charge’d  Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America, Charge’Bryan Hunt and their Assistant Public Affairs Officer - Mr. Albert Razick on September 10, 2015 at East Coast Campus.

The Vice Chancellor provided an overview of the University and talked about its contributions to the communities and economy of Guyana, primarily through research, fostering human capital and creating a skilled workforce.  Education Tourism is a major contributor to the economy of a number of countries around the world which consist of offshore Universities that focus on foreign students.  It is estimated that TAU’s foreign student spend approximately US$5,000-US$6,000 annually on food, transportation, entertainment and recreation in the city.  They also engage in travel and tourism within Guyana and are frequently visited by friends and family from abroad; this bodes well for the tourism sector and development of Guyana.

The Vice President indicated that TAU was successful in attracting people who might not otherwise meet Guyana and currently has 438 students from 35+ different countries studying in the University.  He further noted that the current academic infrastructure is equipped with modern learning facilities and the new campus which is being built in Providence will be on par with international standards.

The Assistant Public Affairs Officer inquired about the Accreditation of the University and in response, the Vice President noted that TAU is affiliated with the following key organisations: 1) National Accreditation Council of Guyana; 2) WHO (World Health Organization); 3) IMED (International Medical Education Directory) among others.  He also indicated that TAU, one among the rapidly growing Medical Schools in the Caribbean will soon be affiliated with the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).

The Director of Operations informed that TAU currently conducts Clinical Rotations in
1) Guyana
  •       Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation
  •       St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and
  •       New Amsterdam Hospital
2)      United States of America
3)      Philippines
Additionally, he explained that through the Ministry of Health, the students are working with the Community Health Centers on some outreach programmes.

Further, mention was made about existing partnerships with Hospitals and Universities located in the United States. These include: the Concordia College, South Shore Hospital, Cook County Hospital and Weiss Memorial Hospital. The Charge’d Affaires commended the University officials on these initiatives and gave his wishes for continued success.
After the meeting, TAU representatives presented the Embassy officials with tokens and provided a tour of the facilities. The Embassy officials were impressed at the scale model of the new campus as well as the campus facilities.

Texila Celebrates 5 Years in Guyana!

September 27, 2010, one of the most remarkable days in the history of Texila – the day on which Texila American University (TAU) was registered in Guyana!!!

TAU started in a small way in Guyana lead by the Vision and Mission of its Founder Mr. Saju Bhaskar and Co Founder Mrs. Chithra Saju and executed in Guyana by then Manager - International Operations Mr. Ashok Kumar. TAU opened its doors in Guyana, for its first batch of seven (7) students in May 2011. The Year 2015 marks a special milestone in the history of Texila in Guyana as it celebrates the 5th Anniversary of the founding of the University. Celebrations are ongoing under the theme “CELEBRATING 5TH YEAR OF EXCELLENCE & SERVICE IN HEALTHCARE EDUCATION”. This landmark gives TAU the opportunity to look back at all that have been achieved together and to look forward to building on the institution’s success.

To mark this momentous occasion, the University launched a week-long series of programmes and activities beginning with the launch of their special 5th anniversary logo at all campus sites. Other activities included community health outreach, sharing of mementos and sweets, recognition of staff for their productiveness and services and a health walk and rally. Staff, students, the local community and fellow universities were all part of the celebrations.

In 5 short years, TAU has been into the list of best Caribbean Medical Schools and has made a remarkable impact on the region and the globe through the delivery of excellence and service in healthcare education, research and innovation.  With students from 38+ different countries, the University is recognized as an institution that is making its mark not only in Guyana but also in a Global stage. Over the years, the University has worked hard as an institution to deliver the outcomes of past achievements. An important focus has been to life performance in the world university ranking systems in the face of fierce international competition. To show their support, Students, Staff, Friends and Family gathered on Saturday, September 27, 2015, to celebrate the University’s anniversary through a grand Health Walk and Rally under the theme “WALK YOUR WAY TO GOOD HEALTH”.  The event was held to encourage the public to take a more active role in their health by simply walking.  The rally urged all to move more, eat better and take care of themselves.

Texila American University (TAU) had signed an MOU with the Mekelle University, Ethiopia for the Doctoral programs in Nursing and Clinical Research.  TAU is the first ever university to offer PhD in Nursing and Clinical Research in whole of Ethiopia with partnership with Mekelle University

TAU is now affiliated with more hospitals in Guyana for Clinical Rotations

Texila American University is now affiliated with different other hospitals in Guyana for Clinical Rotations for the medical students. Initially affiliated with Georgetown Public Hospital (600 bedded) which is one of the oldest and largest Hospitals in Guyana, TAU has added to its list the following hospitals as affiliated hospitals for the students to pursue Clinical Rotations.
  • St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
  • New Amsterdam Hospital
  • West Demerara Regional Hospital

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a premier health care facility is committed to providing quality services to all in Guyana with a spirit of compassion, commitment and professionalism.


 New Amsterdam Hospital, Guyana is an outstanding example of timber architecture, 149 bedded, and one of the two surviving architectural masterpieces.


West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) is a 262 bedded hospital that serves as the referral hospital in Region Three, offering medical service to thousands of people residing on the West Coast.

Taking advantage of the flight from Georgetown to Brasilia via Panama and Sao Paolo is just one of the entry options. But never is far for Texila American University!! First, Texila American University Registrar, Mr. Julius Escalante Romarate carried on to pay a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Philippines Embassy to Brasilia, Brazil. Following, highlights the interaction with the Third Secretary and Vice Consul-Eric P. Villanueva and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary-His Excellency (H.E.) Mr. Jose Dela Rosa Burgos.
The discussion was aroused on the positioning of one of the Clinical Rotations to the Philippines as part of the milestone of Texila American University to be Global…AND THE JOURNEY CONTINUES ON AND ON…and almost missed out; Brasilia is a Beautiful City with very warm people

TAU Signed an MOU with Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Gambia

Texila American University (TAU), one among the best Caribbean Medical Schools has signed an MOU with the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Gambia, for Clinical Rotations.  TAU Offers the Doctor of Medicine Programs in its campus in Guyana.

Texila American University has signed an MOU with Edward Francis Small Teachers Hospital in Gambia so that it would be reliable for the African students to pursue  Clinical Rotations upon completion of the Pre-clinical studies.
TAU offers a great opportunity for the students to get enrolled for its Doctor of Medicine and Nursing Programs and to join the students from over 35+ countries for its various verticals.
Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (Formerly Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH)) was built in the 1890s by the British, who also provided funds for a substantial uplift in facilities in 1953 to coincide with the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. This provided many of the buildings that make up the hospital today.
The main referral hospital in the country, the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, recently named after a pioneer of the struggle for self-determination and Independence. Hospital has 540 beds, clinical facilities available for the student training throughout the country. Average number of patients treated daily 648 and No. of Out-Patient Appointments is over 155,684.
The biggest two Departments are Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology (including Maternity). The hospital also provides Mental Health Services, and has an Infectious Diseases Hospital, as well as a Polyclinic that looks after the Primary Healthcare needs of most people in Banjul.

TAU Donates to the Guyana Police Force Annual Youth Camp

On August 15, 2015, Mr. Karthic Raghupathy, Regional Manager of Marketing and Mr.Deril Fernandez, Administration Manager of Texila American University (TAU) donated food and stationery supplies to the Guyana Police Force as part of its support towards their Annual Youth Camp.

The camp is being held at the Cove and John Head Quarters on the East Coast of Demerara and provides young people with the opportunity to grow more independent, develop their leadership and social skills, increase knowledge and life skills and become more confident.
TAU supports any activity that will improve social skills, build character and lead to more community-mindedness among young people so they can grow into healthy adults with positive behaviors.

TAU Participates in YOUTH EXPO 2015

On August 12, 2015, students and Faculty members of Texila American University (TAU) participated in YOUTH EXPO 2015 under the theme "Come Let’s Celebrate Being a Youth".  The event was hosted by the Ministry of Public Health Adolescent Health Unit in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Department of Culture, Youth & Sport.









The Expo intended to positively influence young people by:  1) Promoting healthier lifestyle choices among youth;  2) Bringing together youths from different spheres of Guyana in order to educate them on the various youth organisations and job opportunities and; 3) Raising awareness on issues that affect youth such as suicide, inter-partner violence, teenage pregnancy and drug and alcohol abuse.

This event showcasedvarious youth organizations and provided valuable learning experiences for participants.Youth Expo participants received statewide recognition of talent while being presented with opportunities to further develop their leadership and communication skills, network with new people, build self-confidence, develop new friendships, and have fun at the Expo.




TAU was honored to be part of the event and continues to support the Government of Guyana and Civil Society in their efforts to engage young people and raise awareness about various social issues.

Texila American University meets with the Charge d'affaires of the Brazilian Embassy

On Tuesday, August 13, 2015, the Director of Operations, Mr. Sreebalakumar and the Regional Manager, Marketing, Mr. Karthic Ragupathy of Texila American University (TAU) met with the Charge d'affaires of the Brazilian Embassy, Ms. Sabine NadjaPopoff.

The meeting intended to discuss the introduction of programmes to Brazil and to seek the support of the Brazilian Embassy for when inquiries are made by Brazilian students interested in studying at TAU.
As part of the introduction, TAU will be offering scholarships to three (3) Brazilian students who excel at their FREE English Entrance Examination.   Successful candidates will benefit from the following:
  1. Free Scholarship until Clinical Rotations
  2. Free Flight Fare from  Brazil to Guyana and vice versa (Once)
  3. Free Accommodation until Clinical Rotations
  4. 1000 USD scholarship every year in Tuition fees
  5. 500 USD scholarship every year in Tuition fees
This initiative by TAU will help promote Guyana as a hub for affordable higher medical education, especially with the construction of the state of the art campus at Providence, East Bank Demerara.  TAU strives to meet, if not exceed, the expectations of prospective overseas students, because the ‘Student Experience’ and the costs associated with an overseas education , including tuition fees and accommodation are becoming significant motivational factors for application to one country over another.
The TAU representatives also extended an invitation to the Charge d'affaires and the Ambassador of Brazil to atour of the campus located at Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara.

Texila American University hosted a meeting with Suriname Ambassador of Guyana

Texila American University (TAU) had hosted a meeting with the Suriname Ambassador of Guyana on Tuesday, 4th August, 2015.  


The representatives of TAU – Director of Operations, Mr. Sree Balakumar and the Regional Manager of Marketing - Mr. Karthic Raghupathy met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname, Her Excellency Mehroen Nisa Kurban-Baboe to discuss the introduction of our programmes to Suriname.   

TAU provides career-oriented educational programmes at the Diploma, Bachelor, Masters/Postgraduate and Doctoral levels through a wide network worldwide.  These programmes include: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Dentistry (DDS), Bachelors in Nursing (BSN & RN-BSN) and Premedical Foundation Programme (BS).  

As a part of the introduction, TAU will be offering scholarships to three (3) Suriname students who excel at their FREE English Entrance Examination. Successful candidates will benefit from the following:

Texila American University presented a Token of Appreciation to Student, Mr. Maximus Saloo

Texila American University (TAU) had presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Maximus Saloo, one of its students, in recognition of his referral of fellow friends to join the University during 2013. TAU Vice Chancellor Dr. Dilip Kumar Patnaik, along with other representatives of Texila American University had presented the token of appreciation on 29th July, 2015 (Wednesday).  


The Vice Chancellor and other representatives expressed their gratefulness to Maximus for his trust and confidence demonstrated in the University and stated that the institution aims to deliver the same as well as a high quality Degree to him and all other students.

At the appreciation ceremony, staff and students also observed a moment of silence as a mark of respect for the Former President of India, H.E. APJ Abdul Kalam who died on Monday, July 27, 2015.
